Security
Security…….in relation to the believer’s union with Christ
Complete IN Christ
The doctrine of the security of the believer must be addressed separately from that of
assurance. Security is what God gives, maintained through the power and sealing of the
Holy Spirit; a work finished and complete through Christ at the cross. Assurance is what
the believer possesses as a result of this completed work of Christ and the Holy Spirit
testifies to this truth. Therefore, the believer is complete in Christ, For in him dwelleth all
the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head
of all principality and power (Col 2:9,10). However, the stages of Christian growth are
progressive and in an orderly fashion, each step progressing to the next. In order to come
into fullness of understanding and into final rest in the doctrinal truth of security the
believer must be grounded and established in the preceding birth truths; each step being
an orderly foundational step of growth.
Our Lord and savior Jesus Christ is our life and only provision: He is our all. As Christians
we are complete IN Him and Jesus is the believer’s only source to remedy our condition;
the self-life. Having faith and understanding in what we are IN Christ, our position, will have
a direct result on the influence of our condition. The believer’s position before God is
complete in Christ Jesus because as believer’s we are IN Christ before God in perfection
because of what Christ is.
Security Truths
Coming into understanding and resting in the eternal security in Christ does not lead to a
life given over to sin as some believe. The believer who is established and grounded in
eternal security is one who has come to truly hate sin for what it is and to fear the Lord.
Understanding security establishes the process of Christian growth, rooting the believer in
firm standing. The insecure believer does not put his faith in God’s word but is relying on
his own ability which is no faith at all. As believer’s we are not only justified by faith but the
Christian walk and spiritual growth come by faith.
Abide in the Vine
The only remedy for self-life is found by going back to the cross; Knowing this, that our
old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that
henceforth we should not serve sin (Romans 6:6). And Christ, who is our life (Col 3:4),
is the only provision as we put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for
the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof (Romans 13:14). By faith we abide in the vine and
the life of Christ is developed in us until Christ be formed in you (Gal 4:19) Being
confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will
perform it until the day of Jesus Christ (Phil 1:6), Who shall also confirm you unto the
end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Co 1:8). The
security of the believer rests solely on their position in Christ, not their condition or
present circumstances. As Christians we should learn to rest in Gods sovereignty and
perfect will for our lives, knowing that the salvation of God was never in our hands or our
ability, for by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the
gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before
ordained that we should walk in them (Eph 2:8-10). Knowing that the love of God is
not temporal or conditional (based on the condition of the believer) but it is everlasting, for
who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or
persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? For I am persuaded, that
neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things
present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall
be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Romans 8:35, 38, 39).
