Appropriation
                                                   Appropriation
Appropriation goes hand in hand with faith once the believer gets past the issue of acceptance.
Spiritually speaking, appropriation is accepting possessions in Christ by faith and applying them
into the believers walk. The ability of application lies solely in the accepting by faith; it is through
faith that we have the ability to appropriate what we have in Christ, not on our own ability. Miles
Stanford says “appropriation is to set aside for our practical possession something that already
belongs to us” (The Complete Green Letters, p 27. Miles J Stanford). As Christians, in faith, we
receive what already belongs to us in Christ.

The ability to appropriate certain attributes of Gods truth and Word into the Christian walk and
daily life of the believer relies upon the Christians ability to see and recognize what is already
given and available. Then the need for the particular attribute must also be recognized to accept
by faith and apply these principles to the Christian life. However, the power of the ability to
apply possessions in Christ is in the Holy Spirit.

God designed life in such a way that brings about discoveries and revelations in a steady and
paced manner with each and every discovery revealing our utter need of Christ. Each discovery
of what the believer possesses in Christ matures our faith from the point of helplessly searching
and asking, to the point of applying truth and giving thanks. However, there is most often a
struggling phase between seeing and accepting the revealed possession in Christ to the actual
ability of receiving and applying (appropriating) the discovery into the believers life. Most often
years may be involved before the actual appropriation of a discovery experience occurs. True,
deep treasures of God are proved genuine through the battle; be not discouraged (1Pet 1:7).
The believers’ position and possessions in Christ and the application of these possessions is a
life time discovery. But, as previously mentioned the believer must be awakened into awareness
of possessions and the need for them in their walk and patiently allow God to work them into
their lives.
