Acceptance
Acceptance
The matter of the believers acceptance before God is an issue that every Christian will
eventually face and must resolve. Any doubts of acceptance must be laid to rest. God
accepts ALL believers that have come to Christ. This acceptance is entirely based on Christs
finished work on the Cross; the believer is accepted through Christ regardless of the
believers short comings, sins, sin habits or spiritual maturity. Therefore being justified by
faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1 emphasis mine).
Gods’ eye is only focused on the work of Christ on behalf of the believer. We were reconciled
to God and have peace through the blood of his cross (Col 1:20). The peace, acceptance and
reconciliation is extended toward us on Gods’ behalf apart from any efforts made on our part
or any righteousness in us. After all, in us dwelleth no good thing (Ro 7:18). Any
righteousness found in a believer is only because the Holy Spirit dwells in them and the
righteousness is a reflection of the Spirits work in the believers’ life, not the person himself.
We are accepted in Christ, nothing is found in us that can commend us to God – rest in Him,
for God loved us while we were unworthy. Gods kindness, love and salvation did not come to
us by any act of goodness or righteousness on our part.
The truth and understanding of acceptance is a primary element that anchors our faith when
it becomes the central theme and focal point of our attitude. Knowing that God never sways
or changes His position of acceptance due to anything committed on our behalf because His
acceptance is not based on human achievement or failure but wholly on Christs work on the
cross, His death, burial and resurrection.
When believers fall into sin they usually make the error of assuming that acceptance with
God must be restored. Nothing could be more incorrect. It is the fellowship with God that is
in need of restoration.
“Until the Christian is absolutely and scripturally sure of his standing, he is not going to do
much standing” Miles J Stanford

Assigned reading – Luke 15:11-32
For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving
divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one
another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man
appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to
his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy
Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That
being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of
eternal life. (Titus 3:3-7)
